Extending the VRE

ANYONE who has ever attempted to travel between Charlottesville and Washington, D.C. without a car knows that it is practically impossible to make the five-hour round trip in one day. Currently, there is only one train which runs from Charlottesville to DC daily, and the ticket prices for the short trip to the District run up to $50 each way.

A group of dedicated Charlottesville citizens has proposed extending the current Virginia Railway Express south from Manassas, through Culpeper and Orange to Charlottesville.

I think this is a great idea. More people are moving to Orange and Culpeper and commuting to D.C., and this would help reduce some of the traffic congestion. Can we get extended to Roanoke – at least on the weekends?
