An Identity Crisis for Supermarkets

Faced with an array of food shopping choices, consumers are increasingly shunning the neighborhood supermarket for specialty chains and discount giants.

Here in Salem, we have a Walmart Supercenter, 2 Food Lion’s, and 3 low-end Kroger’s. We need a grocery store like Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Ukrops, or a better Kroger – like the Kroger at Cave Spring Corner in Roanoke County or at Rio Hill in Charlottesville.
