I also picked up 2 books at Sam’s Club today:
Children who are spanked when they misbehave are more likely to be anxious and aggressive than children who are disciplined in nonphysical ways, research shows. This is true even if spanking is the “cultural norm.”
One question the findings raise is whether being physically disciplined more frequently causes an increase in aggression and anxiety or whether children who are already aggressive and anxious are simply physically disciplined more often. On the basis of other work conducted in the United States, the answer is probably some of each.

We try not to spank in our house, but there are times when time-outs and other types of punishments just do not seem to work. For us, spanking is definitely the punishment of last resort.

This sounds similar to the diet I was on about 5 years ago when I was trying to get my cholesterol and blood pressure down. They both dropped while I was on the diet, but my triglycerides were still too high and my HDL was too low. I eventually went on medication for both cholesterol and blood pressure; however, I haven’t taken the medication in several years, and I now weigh 210 lbs, which is overweight for someone who’s 6′ 0″ tall.
My wife has said she wants to start eating healthier, so maybe it’s time to try the modified DASH diet and get back on the medication. Let’s make the start date some time after Thursday (Thanksgiving).
The Redskins lost to Norv Turner’s Raiders, and that makes nine straight losses to AFC teams. [Mark Brunell](http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/2485 “Yahoo”) doesn’t look all that great anymore. He’s starting to look more like last year’s Brunell than this year’s preseason Brunell.

It would appear that this season’s record will end up being another losing or mediocre 8-8 record, so why not go ahead and put [Jason Campbell](http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7201 “Yahoo”) in and let him start learning? Campbell is the future not Brunell and apparently not [Patrick Ramsey](http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5918 “Yahoo”). Can the front office do something right this time and trade Ramsey while he still has some value?
I should be used to losing by now, but it still sucks. My wife said that she hates when I watch football, because I usually end up in a foul mood. After games like this one, yes, I’m in a foul mood for an hour or so.

When they saw us, the deer slowly walked into the yard at the northwest corner of the intersection. Buddy, the dog, saw the deer, but he also saw a cat a second or two later. He definitely preferred the cat. As we turned from Vine onto Palmer, the deer stood in the yard and watched us walk by.
I saw another deer near there Wednesday at 12:30 in the afternoon. I was bringing W. home from preschool, and we had to stop and wait while a young buck [crossed Kimball](http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Kimball+Ave+%26+S+Colorado+St,+Salem,+VA+24153&spn=0.013074,0.041096&iwloc=A&hl=en “Google Map”) into Bethel Baptist’s overflow parking lot.
