Crappy I-81 Rest Stop in Virginia

I’ve been taking a new blood pressure medication that also contains a diuretic to help relieve swelling in my feet and legs. The medicine has made me urinate more frequently, so of course, I needed to stop while driving back from Charlottesville last night. I finally stopped at the Troutville Rest Stop on I-81 *thinking* I would be able to relieve myself there.

The men’s bathroom was closed, and I was redirected to a “temporary” men’s bathroom that had 6 stalls and no urinals. 3 of the 6 stalls were out of order, and the other 3 were occupied for the 5 minutes that I waited. I finally gave up and held it until I got home.

I checked VDOT’s [website for the rest stop](http://virginiadot.org/comtravel/map-ra-troutsville.asp “The Troutville Rest Stop”), and I see that it’s in the process of being rennovated. Great! I’m glad that it’s being rennovated, but if you’re going to replace it with a temporary facility, shouldn’t you make sure that the toilets in the temporary bathroom work? How many people stop at this rest area every day and walk away with a bad experience? VDOT could at least send a plumber out to fix the toilets in the temporary bathroom…
