Computer Chips New Top Virginia Export

Coal and cigarettes, Virginia’s traditional top exports, are taking a backseat to computer chips.

Virginia chipmakers shipped $1.5 billion of the tiny, high-tech devices overseas last year, more than twice that of coal and three times those of cigarettes. Coal exports were $882.9 million last year, while cigarettes were at $510.8 million
