Happy Birthday B.

Yesterday was my middle child’s birthday, and we took him out to eat -he picked Red Lobster-, bought him some presents, and he played and skated at the skating rink while my other son attended a birthday party there. Last night, he gave me a big hug and said, “Thanks Dad. This was the best birthday ever!”

That was nice. Thanks B., you made my day. đŸ™‚

Slacker Moms urge other mothers to chill

There’s a backlash brewing among the Other Mothers. They, too, love their kids and want to raise them right, but unlike the much-hyped Alpha Moms, whose desire to be The Perfect Mom sometimes leads them to excess in the name of excellence, the laid-back mothers are gaining ground.

The so-called Alpha Mom is a marketing creation, the Super Mom of yesteryear with a few new twists. Alphas are educated, can-do types whose organizational skills bring a corporate mentality to their parenting and a technological agility to their problem-solving. These high achievers will often surf the Web and blogs for advice. Theyve also gotten plenty of media attention.

But sociologists say theres no evidence Alphas are actually better mothers, and now an anti-Alpha movement is taking hold. Those moms have it together sometimes. They may forget to send back permission slips or lose track of their turn for team snacks. They don’t necessarily have the catchy name, though some call themselves Beta Moms or even Slacker Moms as they urge their peers to chill out.

Organic pet food may benefit from recall

Organic pet-food makers and retailers across North America may be the winners as the fallout settles from the recall of nearly 100 brands of pet food manufactured by Canada’s Menu Foods Inc.

As someone stated in the article, I want something that won’t kill my dog. My dog eats Kibbles ‘n Bits dry food, and luckily (fingers crossed), that brand hasn’t been recalled.

I Have Pink Eye Again

Somehow, I’ve managed to catch Pink Eye again. I broke down and went to the doctor and got a prescription for the eye drops that my son used. When I filled the eye drops at the pharmacy, I expected to pay the same $35 copay that I paid when I had my son’s prescription filled, but I was wrong.

Because I have insurance coverage through my work, which I cannot drop, that insurance is my primary instead of my wife’s insurance, and because of this, my wife’s insurance refused to pay. Because the eye drops are considered a tier 3 drug, and my copay is $55, I ended up paying the full amount for the prescription – $53.63.

I get penalized by my wife’s insurance company for having a job that provides coverage that I cannot opt out of. At least nobody else in the house has pink eye.

Pink Eye Day 5

My left eye is still oozing and bloodshot, and now, my right eye looks worse than my left. I had to go out yesterday and refill the $35 eye drops, and even though I wore sunglasses, I still received some serious double takes.

Pink Eye Day 4

By the fourth day, the kids’ pink eye had cleared up, but mine hasn’t. In fact, it appears to be worse. My left eye has been oozing stuff like there’s no tomorrow, and now, my right eye is starting to produce goop, too. The right eye probably got nailed last night. I woke up once last night and I was lying on my right side. My left eye was producing so much liquid that it was running across my nose and over my right eye.
