The 5 State Parks McDonnell Would Like to Close

McDonnell’s proposed budget calls for the temporary closure of:

* [Caledon Natural Area](http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/cal.shtml) in King George County
* [Mason Neck State Park](http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/mas.shtml) in Fairfax County
* [False Cape State Park](http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/fal.shtml) in Virginia Beach
* [Twin Lakes State Park](http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/twi.shtml) in Prince Edward County
* [Staunton River Battlefield Park](http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/stb.shtml) in Halifax and Charlotte counties.

Caledon encompasses 2,579 acres along the Potomac, with dense forest and prime habitat for eagles and other wildlife.

Twin Lakes is Virginia’s most historically significant park for African-Americans.

False Cape is one of the most pristine five miles on the eastern seaboard.

If the budget is approved as proposed, the parks would close to the public, but a skeleton crew would remain on hand as caretakers until the budget situation improves.

Last year, according to the National Association of State Park Directors, Virginia ranked 46th in parks spending per capita and 47th in percentage of state general funds devoted to parks.

For Incomes Below $100,000, Tax Break is Better in Obama’s Plan

Independent analyses of the presidential candidates’ tax proposals show that those who make less than $250,000 a year would not see their taxes raised under Obama’s plans. Further, Obama would generally cut taxes more than McCain would for households with incomes less than $100,000 a year.

McCain would cut taxes generally on par with Mr. Obama for those making between $100,000 and $250,000 a year, but those making $250,000 a year and above would typically pay less in taxes under McCain.

The analyses were conducted independently by the nonpartisan [Tax Policy Center](http://www.taxpolicycenter.org “Tax Policy Center”).

Just Received a Robo-Call from The Judicial Confirmation Network – (703)263-1345

I just received a McCain robo-call from [The Judicial Confirmation Network](http://judicialnetwork.com/ “The Judicial Confirmation Network”).

The number on the caller-id was 703-263-1345, and the name was listed as “NATL POLER 08.”

I couldn’t find a link or e-mail address on their website to have my phone number removed, so I e-mailed the only address listed, info@judicialnetwork.com. That e-mail just bounced back, because their mail quota has been exceeded.
