Brunell’s Still Motoring With His Jag Engine

You could ask Mark Brunell 100 times if his arm feels stronger, if his legs are healthier, if an additional year of recovering from elbow and hamstring injuries from his final days in Jacksonville has allowed him to be a much better quarterback, and 100 times he’ll dismiss it all. He’ll tell you repeatedly he’s able to throw with such improved accuracy and run either to pass or pick up a first down because the Redskins have better personnel and the offense is better structurally.

Let’s hope Brunell can stay healthy and keep doing what he’s been doing.

Redskins 17, Steelers 10 – Friday, August 26, 2005

After throwing an interception that was returned for a score, Washington Redskins quarterback [Patrick Ramsey](http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5918/) rallied for his best performance this preseason in Friday night’s 17-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

[Mark Brunell](http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/2485/) continued to look good, too.

Despite Improvement, Ramsey Still Under Fire

Although you wouldn’t know it
from the reaction Patrick Ramsey received from the crowd, from the fans discussing
the game, or from the press, Rich Tandler thinks Ramsey’s performance took a
quantum leap in the positive direction from the Carolina Game to the Cincinnati Game.

I keep going back to one of the lines in Tandler’s article – “It’s one thing for a quarterback to make a mistake; it’s another for him to make the same mistake over and over again.”

Mark Brunell looked pretty good again, but I’d still like to see how he performs against a first-string defense. When are we going to see Washington’s first-string defense?

Redskins Offense Has a Long Way to Go

The Redskins have struggled to move the ball against their own defense almost every day in practice. The Ravens sacked Ramsey four times. Then, in Saturday’s 28-10 loss to Carolina, Ramsey and the first-team offense failed to produce a point in five drives over nearly two quarters – even with the Panthers phasing their starters out of the game starting with the third drive.

I think Patrick Ramsey still looks like a shell-shocked deer in the headlights. I questioned Joe Gibbs’ drafting of Jason Campbell, but maybe we’re starting to see what he saw last year – a problem with Ramsey that isn’t fixable.

On a high note, it looks like the year off may have done Mark Brunell some good. I’d like to see how well he does against a first-string defense.

Redskins’ Taylor Still Silent

Washington Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs said yesterday he has not spoken with Sean Taylor since the safety was arrested on felony assault charges in Miami over the weekend.

*You’d think that if you were arrested, you might want to let your employer know if you’re coming back to work or not.*

I’m Tired Of Sean Taylor’s Screw-Ups

So far, Taylor is making Lawrence Taylor look like Harry Potter. Because it’s doubtful Sean Taylor’s behavior is going to change any time soon, the question is pretty simple for the Redskins: Is Taylor more trouble than he’s worth?

I asked that same question on [December 4, 2004](/journal/archives/2004/12/04/311/sean-taylor-pleads-not-guilty/).

FCC rules ‘Desperate’ MNF intro not indecent

Federal regulators ruled Monday there was nothing indecent about a steamy introductory segment to ABC’s “Monday Night Football” featuring actress Nicollette Sheridan jumping into the arms of Terrell Owens.

*How much time and money did the FCC waste in the inquiry? How about using some common sense next time and saving the taxpayers some money?*
